GREEN JOB TRAINING

This Green Job Training page will only contain courses that are offered or directly sponsored by New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. Please check with your local community colleges and state universities as they may offer additional opportunities.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities recently approved $900,000 to provide three grants of $300,000 each to enhance existing "green" jobs training programs current being funded by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The three recipients include the following non-profit organizations:

NATE Certification Review & Testing (AC & HP) - Wall

This course is sponsored by New Jersey's Clean Energy Program and the Eastern Heating & Cooling Council. Proper preparation is key in achieving NATE certification. This course was designed to translate the knowledge technicians already use in the field into test-taking readiness. By reviewing the basics of electricity, the refrigeration cycle, and troubleshooting, this course is an excellent preparation for the Core, Air Conditioning and/or Heat Pump exams. Earn 6 NATE CEHs toward re-certification in any specialty certification you already hold. Review on day 1 runs 9-4; exam on day 2 runs 9-1.

Air Conditioning Troubleshooting - Piscataway

This course will provide an overview of air conditioning fundamentals and includes topics such as saturation charts, condenser and evaporator operation, superheat and subcooling, compression ratio and charging by weight, as well as reading schematics for both split systems and packaged units. The class will also explore the sequence of operations for air conditioning systems in order to create a more logical method for diagnostic procedures. This approach will allow technicians to troubleshoot and diagnose R-22 as well as R-410A air conditioning system problems faster and more accurately. Technicians who complete this course will earn 6 NATE CEHs toward all re-certifications except Hydronics and/or 6 BPI continuing education credits.

ACCA Manual J - Mays Landing

All newly installed high-efficiency equipment should be sized within fifteen percent of the calculated loads as estimated in accordance with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) Manual J (or an equivalent estimation procedure). This is also vital for residential customers to be eligible for rebates on high-efficiency HVAC. This course will help you do just that, and will include, as time allows, a brief demonstration of full-version 8th edition software currently available. Technicians earn 6 NATE CEHs toward re-certification in all specialties except Refrigeration Installation and/or 6 BPI continuing education credits. Participants need to bring a calculator!
