Combined Heat & Power Program
A total of $2.9 million in financial incentives was recently presented to Raritan Valley Community College, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics for installing leading-edge Combined Heat & Power (CHP) systems.

NJ Board of Public Utilities President Jeanne M. Fox praised project managers at the three facilities for their efforts to improve energy efficiency. "As much as two thirds of the fuel used to make electricity in our country is wasted by venting unused thermal energy into the air or discharging it into water streams," said President Fox. "CHP systems capture this 'waste heat' and use it for cooling, heating and humidity control systems. At the same time, a CHP system reduces the emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change. It's a win-win for the customer and the environment."

New Jersey Residents are Saving with Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
Just ask Anita Bamford of Union County. "After our Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractor insulated our home, we've noticed increased comfort and less outside noise coming into the house. Plus our electric bills have gone down compared to last year."

The first step is to call and schedule a home assessment, now offered at just $250 (a $500 value).

New Jersey Off-Shore Wind Solicitation
The NJ Board of Public Utilities received five proposals to develop a test project for off-shore wind energy facilities. The proposals called for construction of up to 350 MW in offshore renewable electricity generating capacity from wind energy technology. The five proposals are considered a positive response toward the development of cleaner, non polluting sources of energy for the benefit of New Jersey ratepayers. An evaluation committee has been established to evaluate the proposals with an expected award recommendation by the end of the summer. Proposals are accessible for public review by contacting Case Management at the BPU. For more details, please visit the NJ BPU website at nj.gov/bpu

NJ Anemometer Program Adds New Program Partners
The addition of three colleges to the NJ Anemometer Program brings a total of five colleges partnering with the NJ Board of Public Utilities to assist in the deployment of anemometers around the State. Currently, Rutgers and Rowan Universities administer their anemometer program using US Department of Energy funds provided by the Wind Powering America Program and the NJ Clean Energy Program. The new colleges include Richard Stockton University, The College of New Jersey and Ocean County Community College. The recipients of the college provided wind resource assessment services will be NJ ratepayers deemed to be viable candidates interested in investing in small wind energy generation systems ranging from 10 kW to 100 kW in capacity. For more information contact Alma Rivera.

Public Service Electric & Gas Solar Loan Program
The NJ Board of Public Utilities approved a PSE&G program to provide approximately $105 million towards the financing of solar photovoltaic system installations on homes, businesses and municipal buildings over the next two years.   PSEG Solar Loan Press Release (PDF)

Solar Transition Update
The NJ Board of Public Utilities recently received comments on the transition that allows the sale or trade of solar renewable energy certificates (SRECs) to pay for solar installations.  With more than 3,000 solar installations statewide representing almost 55 MW of solar capacity, New Jersey is one of the fastest growing solar markets in the United States and one of the first in the world to adopt the use of SRECs to help finance solar projects on a broad scale. Go to Policy Updates to read more about recent decisions by the Board.

Millville ShopRite Leads the Way!
In a recent check presentation ceremony, NJ Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Nicholas Asselta recognized Wakefern Foods and the Bottino Family of Supermarkets for incorporating energy efficiency measures at Millville's newest supermarket. Refrigeration, heating and cooling, and lighting system upgrades are projected to save nearly 700,000 kWh annually, a 30% reduction in the supermarket's electrical energy usage. Go to Success Stories to read more about this project and others.

Deluxe Corporation recently installed a humidification system that provided a solution to humidity control in their Mountain Lakes facility. New Jersey's Clean Energy Program has been a valuable partner in Deluxe's ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of its operations, including significant incentives for the implementation of a variety of energy efficiency measures. Go to Success Stories to read more about this project and others.

Comment Period on Draft Energy Master Plan Closes
The public comment period on the Governor's draft Energy Master Plan ended July 25. Members of the public participated in public hearings held in July in Newark, Trenton and Glassboro. The plan, which focuses on electricity and heating, sets goals for aggressively increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy. It coordinates with the State's Global Warming Action Plan. Transportation energy will be incorporated into future updates of the EMP. For more information visit nj.gov/emp.
