New Jersey Off-Shore Wind Solicitation
The NJ Board of Public Utilities received five proposals to develop a test project for off-shore wind energy facilities. The proposals called for construction of up to 350 MW in offshore renewable electricity generating capacity from wind energy technology. The five proposals are considered a positive response toward the development of cleaner, non polluting sources of energy for the benefit of New Jersey ratepayers. An evaluation committee has been established to evaluate the proposals with an expected award recommendation by the end of the summer. Proposals are accessible for public review by contacting Case Management at the BPU. For more details, please visit the NJ BPU website at nj.gov/bpu
NJ Anemometer Program Adds New Program Partners
The addition of three colleges to the NJ Anemometer Program brings a total of five colleges partnering with the NJ Board of Public Utilities to assist in the deployment of anemometers around the State. Currently, Rutgers and Rowan Universities administer their anemometer program using US Department of Energy funds provided by the Wind Powering America Program and the NJ Clean Energy Program. The new colleges include Richard Stockton University, The College of New Jersey and Ocean County Community College. The recipients of the college provided wind resource assessment services will be NJ ratepayers deemed to be viable candidates interested in investing in small wind energy generation systems ranging from 10 kW to 100 kW in capacity. Solar Transition Update
The NJ Board of Public Utilities recently received comments on the transition that allows the sale or trade of solar renewable energy certificates (SRECs) to pay for solar installations. With more than 3,000 solar installations statewide representing almost 55 MW of solar capacity, New Jersey is one of the fastest growing solar markets in the United States and one of the first in the world to adopt the use of SRECs to help finance solar projects on a broad scale. Millville ShopRite Leads the Way!
In a recent check presentation ceremony, NJ Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Nicholas Asselta recognized Wakefern Foods and the Bottino Family of Supermarkets for incorporating energy efficiency measures at Millville's newest supermarket. Refrigeration, heating and cooling, and lighting system upgrades are projected to save nearly 700,000 kWh annually, a 30% reduction in the supermarket's electrical energy usage.
