HVAC Portal

Changes to HVAC Program Guidelines:

Please see the program change notice for a complete summary of FY2017 changes and follow the eligible measures document for a full list of eligible equipment and rebates in addition to new program requirements.

Effective January 1, 2017, the following changes to the Residential HVAC Program include:
  • Collecting the permit number on applications or a copy of the permit application to be submitted with WARMAdvantage and COOLAdvantage applications.
  • To align with the current COOLAdvantage application requirements, a copy of the AHRI certificate must be submitted with WARMAdvantage applications; if not available, a copy of the ENERGY STAR® listing may be provided instead.
  • Manual J load calculations for heating systems must be submitted and equipment must be selected in accordance with ACCA Manual S.

New Jersey's Clean Energy Program is offering a supporting resource to HVAC contractors by providing an online Manual J and S course. However, the online course should not replace the in-person trainings, which are being offered by the program, Elizabethtown Gas, New Jersey Natural Gas and South Jersey Gas. HVAC Best Practices Training

This course will teach you everything from human comfort basics to design process, installation, HVAC commissioning and customer education. Attendees with BPI candidate numbers are eligible for a total of 3.75 CEUs and 7.5 NATE CEHs. Please bring your lunch/snacks with you to the training.

ACCA Manual D Training

This is a special training program to help contractors design ductwork in accordance with ACCA Manual D and also provide guidance on identifying existing ductwork issues that may impact comfort and efficiency. This comprehensive course will review proper installation procedures for newly constructed and existing ductwork. You will also learn techniques on how to identify leaking ducts and how sealing a duct run can affect airflow and static pressure.6 NATE CEHs and/or 3 BPI CEUs available.

Combustion Safety Training

This course will cover the testing procedures of the International Fuel Gas Code and BPI standards.  Attendees will be exposed to the fundamentals of testing combustion appliances under a worst-case scenario for spillage and carbon monoxide and diagnosing problems utilizing draft measurements. Technicians earn 4 NATE CEHs toward re-certification in all specialties except Refrigeration Installation, and/or 2 BPI CEUs. Morning session and afternoon sessions available in the North on April 7 and in the South on April 28.

Airflow & System Charging

Rated efficiency of cooling equipment can only be achieved if system has proper airflow and refrigerant charge.  Attendees will learn why system airflow is critical to properly measure refrigerant charge and the various acceptable methods to accurately measure system airflow.   Attendees will also learn the proper procedures to perform the three basic methods of refrigerant charge, including super heat, sub-cool, and weigh-in and acceptable tolerances to ensure system performance.

Technicians earn 6 NATE CEHs toward re-certification in all specialties except Refrigeration Installation, and/or 3 BPI CEUs.

Hydronics Training

This class is for the technician just getting started in the vast field of using water to heat a structure. It is a comprehensive course for learning the fundamental operation and troubleshooting of boilers, piping and circulator pumps. The class will explore how the thermodynamics of water will affect the flow, how to zone a structure properly, and why pressure is so important to the system.

The HVAC Portal has been developed to provide contractors and customers with access to online application portals for the WARM and COOLAdvantage Programs.

Training was previously held to introduce contractors to the online application portals and a recording of the training session is available below. However, you may find the abbreviated guide of how to use the online portal helpful.

Please note that paper applications will no longer be accepted beginning July 1, 2017, so make sure you sign up for the online portal. The HVAC portals can also be accessed and utilized via Tablet and Smart Phones (Android, iPhone).
