The 2010 Refrigerator/Freezer Recycling program is an exciting initiative from New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. This program promotes responsible recycling of refrigerators and freezers in New Jersey and offers a $50 incentive.

To Participate in this Initiative:
- You must be a residential electric customer of one of the following New Jersey utilities: Atlantic City Electric (ACE), Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G), or Rockland Electric Company, or
- Customers of municipal electric utilities may qualify for the Refrigerator/Freezer Recycling Program with the purchase of a new ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerator. (Legible copy of a dated and itemized sales receipt is required). Restrictions apply. Offer valid until August 31, 2010 for muncipal electric customers or while funding lasts.
- Appliance types include refrigerators and freezers.
- Maximum two units per customer per year.
- For ACE, JCP&L, PSE&G, and Rockland customers: offer valid through December 31, 2010. Unit must be picked up within this time frame.
- Your refrigerator or freezer must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet in size.
- Refrigerator or freezer must be operational at the time of pick up.
- Refrigerator or freezer unit must be owned by the customer.
- An adult, 18 years of age or older, must be present to sign the pick up release form.
- You must provide clear and safe access to your appliance(s) for the removal team. Personnel will not risk injury, or be able to move personal effects, or otherwise modify your home (e.g., remove door or railings) to remove the unit.
- Incentives are processed within 90-120 days.
Energy and Environmental Facts:
- On average a newer refrigerator or freezer consumes 1,000 fewer kilowatt-hours annually than a refrigerator or freezer manufactured before 1990.
- Recycling 20,000 older refrigerators or freezers will result in energy savings equal to the amount of power used in approximately 1,400 homes annually.
- Recycling 20,000 older refrigerators or freezers would result in the avoidance of CO2 emissions equal to removing 40,000 cars from the road for one year.
